In an alarming incident yesterday evening near Swarna Building in 4th Block, Jayanagar, a massive old tree suddenly fell on a commuter, causing serious injuries and damaging several luxury vehicles. Mohammad sustained severe injuries including deep wounds to both legs, his right arm, and head trauma. His condition is currently being closely monitored by hospital authorities. The tree’s trunk was found to be severely decayed and infested with termites, which may have contributed to its sudden collapse.
The falling tree also damaged three high-end vehicles parked nearby, a Toyota Fortuner, a Mahindra Bolero, and an MG Commando. The total damage caused to the vehicles is yet to be estimated.
Following the incident, an FIR has been filed at the Jayanagar police station against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Forest Department. Both departments have been accused of negligence for failing to remove the hazardous tree despite its deteriorated condition. The BBMP has been named as the first respondent in the case.
Police have visited the hospital to record statements from the injured party and are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident. The case highlights concerns over urban tree management and the urgent need for regular inspection and maintenance to prevent such dangerous incidents in the future.
