In a startling series of events, Bengaluru witnessed a spate of tree falls despite the absence of rain or wind. The most recent incident occurred at Richmond Circle, where a massive tree toppled onto an auto-rickshaw, leaving the vehicle severely damaged and its driver seriously injured.

Diwakar, the auto-rickshaw driver, suffered a broken right leg in the accident. Thanks to the prompt response of traffic police and concerned locals, he was quickly transported to the hospital for treatment. The affected road was closed to traffic to clear the debris and ensure safety.

A similar incident was reported on Queen's Road. Here, another large tree fell without any apparent weather trigger, crushing two cars in its path. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in this case.

These incidents have heightened concerns among residents, who now fear the unpredictability of falling trees. The recent monsoon season, which brought heavy rains and strong winds, initially weakened many trees. However, the continued occurrences of tree falls in calm weather suggest deeper issues.

Criticism has been directed towards the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for its apparent negligence. Residents argue that the BBMP failed to take necessary precautions, such as preemptive tree pruning and removal of precarious trees. This negligence has now resulted in repeated incidents, endangering public safety and causing significant property damage.

As Bengaluru recovers from these alarming events, citizens call for immediate and effective action from the BBMP to prevent further disasters.
