Farmer sentenced to 1-day jail, fined ₹30,000 for letting minor ride sports bike in Gubbi accident case

In a landmark ruling, a Gubbi court in Karnataka's Tumakuru district sentenced a farmer to one-day imprisonment and imposed a ₹30,000 fine after a minor, who was given access to a high-speed motorbike, met with a serious accident.

The accused, Narasimha Raju N from Chikkabelave in CS Pura, Gubbi, was detained at the Gubbi court complex on June 30. He was penalized ₹25,000, while his son, Ravi Kumar, was fined ₹5,000 for handing over the sports bike to his 17-year-old friend. The youth, while riding the Yamaha R15 with Ravi as pillion, lost control and crashed into a mud heap near a private college in Gubbi on the night of October 31, 2024.

The collision left the minor with severe injuries to his eyes, waist, and head. He was initially treated at Gubbi Government Hospital before being shifted to private facilities in Tumakuru and later Bengaluru for advanced care.

Following the accident, the injured boy’s father lodged a complaint. Gubbi Police, under SI Sunil Kumar GK, booked Narasimha Raju, Ravi Kumar, and the minor under the Indian Motor Vehicle Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving. The juvenile's case was transferred to a juvenile court for further proceedings.
