In a tragic turn of events, an 11-year-old portraying the role of a demon lost his life after a 14-year-old, depicting Goddess Kali, slit his throat during a performance in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Bambhiyanpur village, situated in the Bilhaur area of Kanpur, where a Bhagwat Katha event was being held at the residence of Subhash Saini. As part of the program, children were involved in a tableau portraying various characters from the Bhagwat Katha.

During the enactment, the teenager playing the role of Goddess Kali unexpectedly used a knife to strike the neck of the boy portraying the demon. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but was declared dead by doctors upon arrival.

Reportedly, the teenager had been instructed to use a trident for the mock-slaying scene, but resorted to a sharp knife when unable to find one. Upon learning of the incident, local law enforcement intervened, initiating an investigation and detaining the accused along with two other children for questioning.

DCP Vijay Dhull of Kanpur Police reportedly stated that an FIR has been filed against the accused for causing death by a rash or negligent act. The juvenile will face legal proceedings, with further actions determined by the Juvenile Court.
