In a deeply disturbing case of domestic violence rooted in ego and societal pressure, a 25-year-old national-level tennis player, Radhika Yadav, was allegedly shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their residence in Gurugram, on Thursday morning. The tragic incident has shocked the sports and local community, with the FIR highlighting a long-standing conflict between father and daughter over her tennis academy.

According to the FIR filed by Kuldeep Yadav, Radhika’s uncle, the primary motive behind the killing was Deepak’s repeated objections to Radhika continuing her tennis academy, which she had started after a career-ending shoulder injury. Despite multiple requests from her father to shut it down, Radhika had refused, determined to coach young aspirants in the sport she once excelled in.
Deepak reportedly told the police that he was disturbed by taunts from villagers, who insinuated he was living off his daughter’s income and even questioned her character. Feeling humiliated and pressured, Deepak claimed to have made up his mind to "end the shame." He used his licensed .32 bore revolver, firing three shots at Radhika while she was in the kitchen around 10:30 am.
Only Deepak, Radhika, and her mother, Manju Yadav, were home at the time. Their son Dheeraj was away, and Kuldeep and his son Piyush, who lived on the ground floor, rushed up upon hearing gunshots, only to find Radhika bleeding heavily. She was taken to Asia Maringo Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The FIR details that the revolver was found on the drawing-room table, containing five empty shells and one live round. Forensic experts have collected fingerprints and blood samples from the scene for further investigation. Deepak confessed to the murder during on-site police questioning, and has been booked under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Manju Yadav, the victim’s mother, told police she was unaware of any serious issues between father and daughter and affirmed Radhika’s integrity and character.
