The Karnataka government is moving swiftly to establish a second international airport for Bengaluru, with a final proposal featuring three shortlisted locations already submitted to the central airport authority. The decision on the final site is expected within the next 15 days, as internal deliberations intensify within the state’s leadership.

The proposed airport is likely to be located in southern Bengaluru, with prominent contenders including Bidadi and Harohalli. The competition over site selection has sparked strong lobbying among Congress leaders.
Karnataka Infrastructure Development Minister M B Patil is scheduled to meet Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu in Delhi on July 21 and 22 to further the discussions. The state is reportedly considering the developmental models of the Noida and Navi Mumbai airports before finalising the location.
The outcome of the upcoming meetings in Delhi is seen as critical, with expectations high for a decisive step toward implementation. The selection of a suitable site is expected to play a key role in shaping Bengaluru’s future connectivity and economic expansion.
