The Income Tax raid on Bengaluru-based contractor-cum-builder Ambikapathi has now become a matter of political contestation in the state of Telangana. The Finance Minister of Telangana, Harish Rao has alleged that contractors are a soft target for the Congress to collect money. He has claimed that the 40% commission under the BJP government for contractors has been raised to 50% under the present dispensation. Ambikapathi was the vice president of the contractor’s association. “The Congress is trying to win elections by distributing money. Rs 1,500 crore has already been collected from many businessmen in that State. The Congress is working on a scheme to move that money from Bengaluru to Hyderabad via Chennai,” Harish alleged.
“Congress is also attempting to funnel in money through the Gold Merchants association. No matter how many bundles of currency are distributed, the Congress party will only keep dreaming about coming to power. K Chandrashekar Rao Government will surely score a hat-trick in Telangana,” Harish claimed.
Earlier, officials from the Income Tax Department conducted a raid on the premises of Ambikapathi. Rs 42 Crore were uncovered during this raid. The Income Tax officials have now registered a case against him and investigations are underway.
