Authorities have issued flood warnings in the Cauvery river basin following a sharp rise in the water level of the Krishnarajasagar (KRS) reservoir, prompted by continuous rainfall across the region. Tourist access to several riverbank destinations has been restricted as a precautionary measure.

The KRS dam, with a full capacity of 124.80 feet, has now reached 121 feet. With inflows crossing 20,315 cusecs and continuing to rise, dam authorities have released 29,000 cusecs of water into the Cauvery river to manage the situation. Officials warn the inflow may increase to 50,000 cusecs by this evening or early tomorrow.

Heavy rainfall in the Cauvery basin over the past few days has significantly raised the reservoir’s inflow rate, increasing the risk of downstream flooding. As a result, the administration has tightened safety measures, especially in vulnerable tourist hotspots.

Srirangapatna Tahsildar Parashuram Sattigeri has reportedly ordered restrictions on entry to popular riverbank destinations including Balamuri, Edamuri, Sangama, and Gosai Ghat. Bathing ghats near Nimishambha temple and Sri Ganganath temple have also been closed to visitors.

Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, urging residents and tourists to stay alert and follow official advisories. With water levels expected to rise further, additional measures may be implemented to ensure public safety.
