Kohn was just 22 years old when a severe motorcycle accident left him with a traumatic brain injury, plunging him into a deep coma. Doctors considered harvesting his organs due to the severity of his condition, but his mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn, held onto hope, refusing to let go.
After eight months, Kohn defied all odds by waking up from the coma, marking the beginning of a grueling rehabilitation journey. His first words to his mother were, “Yeah Mom, I’m OK. I love you, mom.” This miraculous recovery, during which he regained the ability to walk, earned him the title of “modern-day miracle.”
On July 26, Kohn’s life was abruptly cut short when he was struck by a pickup truck while walking on Collins Road in Jacksonville around 5:30 am. The driver, who claimed not to have seen him, immediately called 911, but Kohn was pronounced dead at the scene.
Osborne-Kohn expressed her gratitude for the additional seven years she had with her son. “I’m grateful for the borrowed time I had with him,” she said. “God honored my request, and I’m not mad. I’m not angry. I’m at peace.”
Reflecting on her son’s journey, she remembered a poignant moment at his hospital bed, praying, “Thy will be done,” surrendering his fate to God.
Drew Kohn’s story is a testament to resilience and the power of hope, even as his life ends in tragedy.
