Former actor Mamta Kulkarni becomes Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhara at Mahakumbh 2025

Former Bollywood actor Mamta Kulkarni has embraced a spiritual life, taking the title of “Mahamandleshwar” in the Kinnar Akhara at the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. She has adopted the spiritual name “Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.”

Laxmi Narayan, Acharya Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhara, reportedly confirmed the development, stating, “Mamta Kulkarni has been in touch with us for over a year. All rituals for her initiation are underway. She is now allowed to perform devotional roles as part of her spiritual journey.”

Kulkarni, dressed in saffron robes and wearing a rudraksha mala, was seen performing the traditional ‘Pind Daan’ ritual at the sacred Sangam Ghat. Speaking to media, she said, “This was the will of Mahadev, Maha Kaali, and my guru. I only followed their guidance.”

The title of Mahamandleshwar is deeply respected within Hindu monastic orders, astrologer Dr. Virender Sahni reportedly explained. It is a prestigious designation conferred within the 13 recognized akharas of India, symbolizing a commitment to spiritual discipline and service to humanity, he said.

Sahni further noted that becoming a Mahamandleshwar requires renouncing worldly ties, including one’s former identity. It carries immense spiritual, social, and cultural significance, placing the individual under heightened scrutiny and responsibility, he added.

Kulkarni’s transformation underscores her dedication to a path of spirituality, marking a significant chapter in her life beyond the film industry.
