President Droupadi Murmu appointed governors for 9 states including Telangana, Punjab and Rajasthan. Former Member of Parliament (MP) from the Mysuru constituency C.H Vijayashankar has been appointed as the governor of Meghalaya. 

Vijayashankar hails from the Ranebennur city in the Haveri district of Karnataka. He was born on October 21st, 1956. He was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) right from his initial days in politics. He emerged victorious from Mysuru in 1998 and 2004 respectively. In 2004, Vijayashankar defeated the incumbent MP, the nominal king of Mysuru Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar by 17,215 votes in a 3-way contest. Vijayashankar had joined the Indian National Congress (INC) for a brief period in 2017 before he rejoined the BJP in November 2019.

Vijayashankar was in fact the first person to win in Mysuru from the BJP. He contested from Hassan in 2014 and lost to the former Prime Minister of India H.D Devegowda. Vijayashankar also served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Hunsur constituency. He also has the experience of serving as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). Former State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu C.P Radhakrishnan has been appointed as the governor of Maharashtra.
