Bengaluru police have arrested four men accused of altering and circulating photos of at least seven women, including minor girls, on WhatsApp. The victims, some of whom are school students, are alumni of the same institution as the accused.

The incident was brought to light when the father of one of the minor victims lodged a complaint with the police on May 30. His daughter, a Class 12 student, discovered that her photos had been morphed and shared in a WhatsApp group by former school seniors. She learned about this from a schoolmate and friend of the accused on May 28.

According to the complaint, the girl’s father sought police intervention after the school declined to assist, stating that the accused were no longer students there. The girl’s elder brother investigated further, meeting one of the accused. Upon checking the accused’s phone, he found a WhatsApp group where obscene photos of his sister and other women were being circulated. The group had only the four accused men as members.

One of the accused was familiar with the victim, having befriended her on Instagram. He, along with his friends, downloaded her photos from the platform and morphed them.

The arrests highlight the urgent need for stringent action against digital harassment and the protection of privacy and dignity, particularly for minors. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
