The BJP is set to launch an 11-day Tiranga Yatra from Tuesday (May 13) to connect with citizens and highlight the success of Operation Sindoor, a military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, where Indian forces targeted terror camps in Pakistan. This marks the first Tiranga Yatra organized by the BJP following a military operation. However, it’s not the first time the party has incorporated the national flag into its campaigns.

The Tiranga has played a prominent symbolic role in BJP-led initiatives, most notably the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign launched in 2022, during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years of India’s independence. According to the Ministry of Culture, the aim was to bring the national flag into every home to build a personal connection with it, stirring patriotism and national unity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a strong supporter of this campaign, encouraging citizens to display the Tricolour and take pride in the nation.
Historically, BJP has used similar flag-centered campaigns. In 2011, Anurag Thakur led an Ekta Yatra to hoist the flag in Srinagar, during the time when Article 370 was still in effect. Years earlier, in 1991, Murli Manohar Joshi, with Modi by his side, also hoisted the flag in Srinagar during a similar Ekta Yatra.
