A report to BBMP suggests giving Bengaluru a facelift

It includes setting up watchtower, heritage corridors

The endeavour is to give Bengaluru's a image, a boost

Bengaluru is one city that has etched a name for itself on the global map. Be it its IT prowess or its exquisite gardens or even its weather, the garden city is a hit among all!

More and more people are shifting their base to Bengaluru as it offers copious job opportunities. That being the case, the Karnataka government has come up with a new concept called Brand Bengaluru which envisages a Bengaluru that has good sidewalks, dedicated cycling lanes, pedestrian-friendly roads, among others.

Now, with a desire to augment the garden city’s image, a 10-member committee has submitted a report Vibrant Bengaluru which comes under the larger Brand Bengaluru project.

Let’s see a few recommendations put forth in the report.

  • Colour-coding of public institutions, year-long cultural calendar and Theatre complexes

The committee has proposed colour-coding of public institutions and even select streets and a year-long cultural events and creation of more theatre complexes.

  • International standard flower park, watchtower

To give more fillip to the city’s beauty, an international standard flower park, and a landmark watch tower for Bengaluru based on Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty also feature in the report.

  • Remodelling of heritage corridors

The report also suggests remodelling of heritage areas as heritage corridors. They will have guided walks, audio tours, among others.

When it comes to Public Utility building, it is suggested that it be reused as a house of cultural and office spaces, also giving a chance to see Bengaluru in an aerial manner.

It has also been suggested that Freedom Park be used as a cultural centre and a Kempegowda statue be erected at the BBMP head office.
