With auto and taxi fares shooting up unpredictably on popular ride-hailing apps, Bengaluru commuters have been left frustrated and financially drained. Many report being charged double or even triple the normal fare, especially during peak hours or rainy days. This surge pricing, coupled with steep commissions levied on drivers, has pushed both passengers and drivers to the edge.

Now, a potential game-changer is in the works. A coalition of 22 private transport unions under the Private Transport Federation is preparing to launch a new ride-hailing app designed specifically to counter the dominance of current aggregator platforms. The aim is to offer transparent, affordable, and commuter-friendly fares, while also supporting drivers by eliminating unfair commission structures.
Unlike existing apps, the new platform will strictly follow fare rates prescribed by the Karnataka Transport Department. It promises to be both driver-empowering and budget-friendly for users. Officials from the federation stated that many auto drivers have been wrongly accused of overcharging due to the manipulative pricing systems of aggregators, even when they charge only the government-approved amount through offline bookings.
To rebuild trust and reclaim control over urban transport, the federation also plans to launch a public awareness campaign, urging citizens to uninstall exploitative apps and support platforms that operate with fairness and transparency.
Currently in its final development phase, the new app is expected to debut soon, bringing a much-needed alternative to a city caught in the grip of fare inflation.
