  • Launch of Yellow Line metro now postponed to January 2024
  • Delayed due to an essential inspection and approval by CMRS
  • Three train sets to operate with a 30-minute frequency after launch

Bengaluru’s much-anticipated Yellow Line metro, which will connect R V Road to Bommasandra, has faced another setback, with the launch now postponed to January 2024. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) reportedly confirmed the delay on Saturday, citing the need for further preparations.

The 18.82-kilometre Yellow Line, costing ₹5,745 crore, will feature 16 elevated stations, including key stops such as Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City, aiming to boost connectivity in southern Bengaluru.

Originally slated for commercial operations in December 2023, the launch has been pushed back due to an essential inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), which will now take place that month. The delay is tied to the phased arrival of the trains for the new line. The first three train sets are expected between November and December, with operations beginning with a 30-minute frequency in January.

BMRCL officials highlighted that by March 2025, additional trains will be introduced, improving service frequency. By August 2025, a full fleet of 15 trains is expected to be operational, enhancing connectivity to major tech hubs like Infosys and Biocon.

Despite these delays, the Yellow Line is poised to offer much-needed relief to Bengaluru’s growing traffic congestion, with intersections at key metro stations like R V Road and Jayadeva Hospital.
