On September 1st, 14-year-old Shawez started exhibiting strange symptoms such as fear of water, making noises similar to a dog’s howl and a refusal to take food. When his parents took him to a doctor, it was identified that he has been infected by rabies due to a dog bite and the infection has spread across the body.
His grandfather Matloob Ahmed said, “When we asked him about the bite, he informed us that more than a month back, he was bitten by the neighbour’s dog but did not report it as he was scared. This prevented immediate intervention.” in an interaction with True Story UP.
The family then ran between pillar and post in the hope for treatment but all the major hospitals of the region including the GTB hospital and AIIMS had declared that the condition had transpired to a state where no remedial measure could save the child’s life. He died on his father’s arm in an ambulance while on the way from Bulandsheher to Ghaziabad after having visited a doctor whom they were told prescribes medicines for such instances.
Mathloob Ahmed, the father was a daily wage labourer in the Charan Singh Colony in Vijay Nagar, Delhi. They are planning to press charges against their neighbour.
