  • Bengaluru’s traffic can’t be fixed overnight, says Deputy CM Shivakumar
  • Rapid growth and infrastructure hurdles worsen congestion
  • Govt prioritizes road upgrades; tunnel projects face delays

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s latest remarks on the city’s traffic woes have sparked a debate on social media. Speaking at the launch of the Namma Raste initiative on Thursday, he acknowledged the challenges in addressing Bengaluru’s congestion and stressed the need for long-term urban planning.

Shivakumar highlighted that Bengaluru’s rapid growth, with a population of 1.4 crore and 1.1 crore registered vehicles, has led to severe traffic issues. While reiterating his push for tunnel roads as a potential solution, he admitted that delays due to financial, technical, and land acquisition hurdles have hindered progress.

The state government, he said, is currently focusing on improving existing roads by ensuring better design standards, quality control, and maintenance. Long-term projects like tunnel roads and elevated corridors remain on the agenda, but their implementation requires careful planning and execution.

The Deputy CM’s statement, particularly his comment that even divine intervention would not resolve the problem overnight, drew mixed reactions online. While some agreed that systematic development is crucial, others criticized the administration for delays in implementing solutions.

With Bengaluru’s traffic concerns intensifying, the success of the government’s planned infrastructure projects will be key to easing the city’s mobility crisis.
