Gold layered sweet 'Swarna Madura' garners nationwide attention

With the anticipation for the festival of Deepavali rising among Indians, eateries are leaving no stone unturned in appealing to the foodie within us. We have heard of gold plated silverware and even gold plated iPhones but the city of Ahmedabad, known for their intriguing innovation in cuisine, we are now purview to gold layered sweets. 

A sweet named “Swarna Madura” has been making the buzz as it has a 24-carat gold layering over it. It costs Rs 21,000 per kg. An individual piece however costs Rs 1400. “The Swarna Mudra sweets have especially been made this year and are getting a good response. We are taking orders for the sweets and preparing accordingly. Some people are also customising their orders. The Swarna Mudra sweets are gaining the attention of all those who are arriving to buy sweets,” said Raveena Tilwani, associated with Ahmedabad's Gwalia SBR outlet. Swarna Madura also consists of blueberries, almonds, pistachios and cranberries. 

Ahmedabad’s Gwalia is also renowned for other delicacies. These include Kunafa (Middle Eastern dessert made with semolina, soaked in sugar syrup and layered with cheese or cream) and Bakalva (layered pastry dessert made of filo pastry, filled with chopped nuts, and sweetened with syrup or honey).
