The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued official notices to tech giants Google and Meta regarding their alleged role in promoting online betting applications. This move comes amid growing concerns over illegal financial transactions and regulatory violations linked to these apps.

Sources in the ED revealed that the notices were served in light of both companies hosting and enabling advertisements or promotional activities related to betting apps on their platforms. These apps have reportedly facilitated crores of rupees in illegal financial dealings, raising alarm across regulatory bodies.
The ED suspects that the promotion of these apps on social media and search engines may have contributed to widespread usage among users, despite betting being largely illegal in India. The notices also seek clarification on revenue models, promotional policies, and compliance with Indian laws.
As per the notice, representatives from both Google and Meta have been asked to appear before the ED for questioning on Monday, July 21. The interrogation will focus on understanding the platform's internal checks, ad screening policies, and financial gains derived from these betting app promotions.
