What was meant to be a historic homecoming for IPL 2025 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took a heartbreaking turn after tragic incidents during public celebrations in Bengaluru led to the loss of lives.

As thousands gathered to welcome the team, chaos broke out at multiple points in the city. Reports emerged of stampedes and suffocation in over-crowded areas, leaving several injured and at least a few fatally affected. The team, visibly shaken, released a statement expressing deep anguish.

“We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports… Safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us,” said RCB. The franchise cancelled celebratory plans following guidance from the local administration.

Star batter Virat Kohli, who had led the team to the title and is known for his passionate bond with fans, wrote: “At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted.”

In a joint decision with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), RCB has announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives.

RCB urged fans to remain safe and cautious, marking an emotional end to what had otherwise been a dream campaign.
