  • No Kannada film in top 10 highest collectors
  • Pathaan tops the list
  • More to look forward in the second half

Ormax Media Private Limited, a specalised insights consulting firm for the Indian entertainment and media industry, has released its half-yearly report on the Indian box office on the Indian box office ranging from January 2023 to June 2023.

The cumulative collection has been estimated to be Rs 4868 crore. The contribution of Hindi films is capped at 37% with Shahrukh Khan-starrer Pathaan accounting for more than 1/3rd of the figure. The concerning trend however has been that of Kannada films whose share has dropped to 2% from 8% in the January 2022 - November 2022 cycle.

In addition to this, not a single Kannada movie is featured in the list of top ten highest grossers for the half-yearly period. This is in stark contrast to the previous cycle wherein KGF:2 and Kantara had finished at the top and the third position respectively. This year, Kabzaa starring Upendra and Sudeep and Kranti starring Darshan have failed to live up to the hype they had generated pre-release.

Fans need not lose heart as the second half of the year also has a star-studded line-up comprising of films like Richard Anthony starring Rakshit Shetty and Ghost starring Shivrajkumar.
