The incident occurred on the Ahmedabad- Bagodara highway on August 11th. A Tata Ace mini truck also referred to as ‘Chota Hathi’ was on its way back from the Chamunda Mataji temple in Chotila. It rammed onto the backside of a stationary truck on the highway. How the exact sequence of events unfolded is yet to be determined.
Of the 10 dead, 5 were women and 3 were children. 7 others have also sustained injuries as a result of the accident.The superintendent of police for Ahmedabad rural confirmed the same. Investigations are underway to determine where the lapse or negligence occurred.
Chief minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel offered his condolences to the victims. “The accident on Bavla-Bagodara highway in Ahmedabad district is heartbreaking. I pray that God rests the souls of those who lost their lives in this tragedy and [wish for the] speedy recovery of the injured. My condolences are with the bereaved families.” he said.
