Social Welfare Minister H.C Mahadevappa has produced documents pertaining to the case. He affirmed that the land in question does not fall under the ambit of the Prohibition of Transfer of Certain Lands (PTCL) act meant as a safeguard for the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. He also explained how Pavithra came to be in possession of the land. “The land was bought in an auction in 1985 by a person named Jawara for Rs 100. The land which is more than 3 acres in terms of area was notified in 1992. In 1998 the land was denotified to Devaraj. The land was purchased by Pavithra’s brother in 2004. In 2010, the land was transferred to Pavithra. In 2005, the land was sold off for development purposes by MUDA. When this was brought to MUDA’s notice by Pavithra, it was decided that she would be reallocated an alternative piece of land. The due process of the law was followed,” Mahadevappa stated.
