Harshika Poonacha gets married to long-time beau Bhuvan Ponnanna

Kannada actress who had won the Kannada State Film Award for best supporting actress in 2010 for her role as Amrin Sabha in the Shiva Rajukumar-starrer Thammasu and the Suvarana Award for the best supporting actress for her role as Yashoda in the Puneet Rajkumar-starrer Jackie got married to her boyfriend Bhuvan Ponnanna who is also an actor and is known for his role as an antagonist in the Ganesh-starrer Kool, Sakkath Kool Maga. 

They both hail from the Kodagu district and their marriage solemnised as per Kodava traditions. 

“On Tuesday, there was a traditional Potti Dhumbchudo (Filling the box) ritual. Bride’s family packs everything that is needed for her to start a family, minus needles and scissors. It was interesting to find out they also pack a new diary, a pen and letters so the bride can write to her friends and family back home or to her husband when he is away. This also makes so much sense because many Kodavas were in the Army. I am learning so much. Some of the rituals are so cute,” she said. 

“On Wednesday morning, there was ‘Ole pooje’, before starting the wedding cooking. In the evening, there was Oorkooduva (village gathering) where people from across the village are invited to the wedding. We drink, dance and make merry. It was also an unofficial mehendi night! I have all my cousins around me and since I am an only child, so many of my cousins have come to celebrate with me. I was enjoying every minute,” she added.
