Voting to take place in 13 constituencies across UP in 5th phase
Parties like SP and Congress spread lies over CAA: Modi
Work of giving refugees citizenship has started: Modi
Voting will take place in 13 constituencies across Uttar Pradesh in the 5th phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) passed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was a major point of contention between the government and the opposition parties. “Parties like the Samajwadi Party and Congress spread lies over the issue of the CAA. They tried their best to burn the country, including UP, in riots. Even today, people of this INDI alliance say that Modi has brought the CAA and the day he goes, the CAA will also be removed. Desh mein koi maai ka laal paida hua hai jo CAA hata sake? (has anyone been born in this country who can repeal the CAA?). Nobody can remove the CAA. Modi has removed their veil of fake secularism under the garb of which they tried to do vote bank politics and made Hindu-Muslim fight against each other,” PM Modi said while addressing a gathering in Azamgarh.

While the critics have interpreted the CAA as complementary to the National Citizen Registry (NCR) and hence an attempt to disenfranchise a section of society, the central government has maintained that the act is aimed to be a framework to accommodate persecuted minorities in the neighbouring countries. “The work of giving refugees citizenship under the CAA has already started. These are those people who have been living in the country for a long time as refugees and were victims of partition of the country done on the basis of religion,” Modi added.
