Hassan: Schools closed in 5 taluks due to heavy rains

C Sathyabhama, DC (District Commissioner) of the Hassan district has declared a holiday for primary and higher secondary schools and Anganwadi centres today in over 5 taluks. The reason stated for this is that the region has experienced very high rainfall.

Sathyabhama had earlier informed officers of the district to be in full preparedness in case the Hassan district experiences a flood like situation. For this coordination amongst the Fire and Emergency Services, the engineering sub division of the Rural Development Department and the National Highways would be crucial and the DC has pointed out to the same. Already arrangements for boats and other emergency supplements essential for rescue operations in case of a flood have been made.

Along with Hassan, Kalaburgi, Vijayapura, Haveri, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu have been issued a yellow alert. A Yellow alert is issued when the expected rainfall is between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm.
