A startling revelation has emerged in Karnataka, where a special operation by the Health Department has uncovered a growing menace of fake doctors across the state. In just one year, 958 unqualified individuals posing as medical practitioners have been identified, endangering countless innocent lives for the sake of profit.

The capital city, Bengaluru, alone has reported 15 such cases. The issue is most severe in Bidar district, where 213 fake doctors were found, followed by Kolar(115), Tumakuru (109), Vijayanagara (81) and Kalaburagi (64). Out of the total 958 fake doctors, 443 have been issued notices by the Health Department and 67 have had cases officially registered against them.

These fake doctors often set up unauthorized clinics in remote rural areas, preying on the lack of access to proper healthcare. Their presence poses a significant threat to unsuspecting villagers, who rely on them for treatment without knowing that these individuals lack necessary qualifications.

Reacting strongly to this public health crisis, the Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to take immediate action. The court emphasized the danger these individuals pose, especially to vulnerable rural populations, and urged the identification and closure of such unauthorized clinics under appropriate legal provisions.
