“We have immediately taken precautionary measures by collecting samples of other brands for testing,” Rao stated. "Once the reports are available, we will inform the public accordingly." He also clarified that Coldrif was only supplied to certain districts in Tamil Nadu, and emphasized that there has been no impact in Karnataka.

Coldrif banned nationwide

Rao further mentioned that Coldrif has been banned nationwide, and citizens need not worry, as there have been no reported cases in the state. He attributed the problem to some companies trying to profit at the expense of public safety, particularly in Africa, where similar issues with the syrup had been reported earlier.

The minister assured that the Drug Control Department in Karnataka is rigorously testing and inspecting medicines, leading the country in drug safety protocols. He also confirmed that the central government has advised other states to follow Karnataka’s lead in maintaining stringent checks on medical supplies.
