Hassan: A Hotspot for Cardiac Deaths

Hassan district has emerged as the epicenter of this health emergency. In the past 40 days alone, 19 people have died due to heart attacks—averaging one death every two days. On a single day, four people succumbed to cardiac arrest in the district. The victims include 50-year-old Lepakshi from Belur, 26-year-old soldier Lohit from Kembal village in Channarayapatna taluk, 57-year-old Kumar, and 58-year-old Muttiah.

"This is an unprecedented situation. We are seeing an abnormal rise in sudden cardiac deaths," a local health official reportedly said.

Bidar’s Nirna Village in Shock

In Nirna village of Chitaguppa taluk, Bidar district, six people have died of heart attacks in just two months. Residents are alarmed and fearful, with 13 deaths reported across a few nearby villages in the past four months.

Youth Under Threat

Jayadeva Hospital in Mysuru reports losing 70 to 80 lives monthly due to cardiac issues. Of the 300–400 daily cases treated, many are young adults. Notably, 26-year-old MBBS student Vaibhav from Vijayapura died recently of a heart attack, highlighting the growing risk among the younger population.

Government Responds

MP Dr. C.N. Manjunath has raised the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and CM Siddaramaiah emphasized the need for a thorough investigation. “We will form a 10-member expert committee to find the root causes,” the CM stated.

With heart attack deaths rising at an alarming rate, urgent action is now underway to prevent further tragedy.
