Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a historic victory in the opening match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025, successfully chasing the highest-ever total in the tournament’s history. However, amid the celebrations, fans were left questioning the absence of Kannada spinner Sreyanka Patil from the squad.

Sreyanka, known for her wicket-taking ability and valuable contributions with the bat, was surprisingly omitted from RCB’s playing XI. Instead, all-rounder Sneha Rana was given an opportunity in the team. Reacting to the disappointment, Sreyanka took to Instagram, posting a heartfelt message: "Heartbroken, but I will fly again."  The post, featuring her on a swing by a lakeside, has since gone viral.

The match itself was a thrilling contest at the Vadodara Cricket Stadium. Gujarat set a formidable target of 201 runs, but RCB’s batters responded in dominant fashion. Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh led the charge with stunning half-centuries, ensuring RCB chased down 202 runs to claim a memorable victory.

Despite the triumph, the absence of Kannada representation in RCB’s playing XI has sparked discussions among fans. While Sreyanka remains on the sidelines, her message suggests she is determined to make a comeback soon.
