Monsoon rains have intensified across Karnataka, especially in the northern districts, causing widespread flooding, traffic disruptions, and damage to property. While the rain has led to localised chaos, major disasters have been narrowly averted, and no casualties have been reported so far.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather anomaly in the Bay of Bengal is intensifying monsoon activity, with heavy rain forecasted in at least five districts. A red alert has been issued for affected regions.
In Dyamanashi village of Gajendragad taluk, Gadag district, an overflowing stream posed a serious risk. A KSRTC bus ferrying schoolchildren stopped short of crossing the stream, and the children were helped across by villagers amidst tense moments.
In Bagalkot district, a government bus broke down while crossing a swollen stream near the Jala Kamaldinni-Karadi village bridge. Locals had to tow the vehicle out using a tractor. In Guledagudda town, floodwater inundated a petrol station, turning it into a temporary pond.
Several houses in Lakshmi Nagar, Basavanabagewadi town of Vijayapura district were flooded. An elderly woman trapped in rising waters was rescued and relocated to safety. Meanwhile, in Battikoppa village of Haveri district, a house wall collapsed due to continuous rain. Fortunately, no one was inside at the time.
In Hospet taluk, Vijayanagar district, heavy rains submerged hundreds of acres of sugarcane crops in Jambunath village. In Bellary’s Siruguppa taluk, villagers saved a biker who was being swept away while attempting to cross a flooded ravine in Raravi village.
Though the monsoon’s fury continues, timely community responses and alertness have prevented untoward incidents. Authorities urge residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, with heavy rainfall expected to persist.
