Taking a leaf out of the water metro service in Kochi, Karnataka is now eyeing a similar initiative for the coastal city of Mangaluru. In the Karnataka Budget 2024 presented today, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said there are plans to introduce a Water Metro service along the Gurupura and Netravati rivers in Mangaluru.
Here are some key aspects of the budget.
- Water-metro services will be established in the Gurupura and Netravati rivers along Mangaluru.
- Rs 1600 crore has been allocated for the development of airports
- 100 acres in the Kalaburagi district will be dedicated for a mega textile park. This will result in direct employment of 1 lakh people and indirect employment of 2 lakh people
- The “Amrutha Swabhimani Kurigaahi Yojana” will help more than 10,000 shepherds as the government will aid in the procurement of loans for up to 6% of the cost.
- Rs 3000 crore has been allocated for various schemes aimed for the assistance of fishermen. 16 aquaculture centres will be established across Karnataka.
