Chandragiri Railway Station, part of the Guntakal Division under the South Central Railway, is one of three stations in the zone managed exclusively by women. From station masters to security personnel, every role here is handled by female employees. The team includes three station masters, four point staff, and one security guard, ensuring seamless operations around the clock.
The station witnesses the movement of express trains, 13 passenger trains, and freight services bound for Guntakal and Katpadi. Women employees efficiently manage ticket sales, security, signaling, and station maintenance, proving their capability in a traditionally male-dominated sector.
The Indian Railways estimates that around 20% of its workforce comprises women. However, at Chandragiri, employees like Station Master Sangeeta Lakshmi and RPF Constable Kavya are determined to prove that a station run by women operates just as efficiently as any other. Their dedication serves as an inspiration for gender inclusivity in the transport sector.
This initiative highlights the progress towards gender equality in India’s railways, making Chandragiri a beacon of empowerment and a perfect example of women breaking barriers in the workforce.
