The Karnataka Transport Department launched a citywide operation on June 30, 2025, to tackle rampant overcharging by auto-rickshaw drivers, prompted by numerous passenger complaints. Under Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy’s orders, the 12-hour drive, from 7 AM to 7 PM, targeted fare violations across Bengaluru’s 13 Regional Transport Office (RTO) jurisdictions to ensure compliance and protect commuters. Over 20 dedicated teams, each with four members, were deployed, resulting in 299 cases filed and 114 auto-rickshaws seized.

Bengaluru South led with 48 complaints and 18 seizures, followed by Bengaluru Central with 30 complaints and 19 seizures. Bengaluru West reported 36 complaints and 13 seizures, while Nelamangala had 30 complaints and 12 seizures. Other areas included Gnanabharathi (18 complaints, 16 seizures), Electronic City (26 complaints, 8 seizures), K.R. Puram (19 complaints, 5 seizures), Yelahanka (11 complaints, 5 seizures), Chandapura (11 complaints, 4 seizures), Ramanagara (9 complaints, 4 seizures), Devanahalli (6 complaints, 2 seizures), Bengaluru North (25 complaints, 3 seizures), and Bengaluru East (30 complaints, 5 seizures).
The operation highlights the government’s commitment to fair public transport practices. Karnataka Transport Ramalinga Minister Reddy assured continued enforcement to curb violations and urged commuters to report issues, reinforcing efforts to maintain transparency and accountability in Bengaluru’s auto-rickshaw services.
