A chilling series of crimes has come to light along the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, with a dangerous robbery gang reportedly targeting high-speed cars. These criminals allegedly orchestrate accidents by placing large stones on the highway, causing unsuspecting drivers to crash. Once the vehicle is immobilized, the gang launches a swift and violent attack, looting the occupants before fleeing the scene.

Recent incidents have raised alarm, especially in areas between Hoskote and Chittoor, where the expressway is known for its connectivity. On May 25, multiple fatalities were reported due to these orchestrated accidents. Notably, lawyer Hussain Owaisi has lodged formal complaints with senior officials including the DGP-IGP, Highway Authority, and the Chief Engineer of the highway. According to Owaisi, the gang’s method involves strategically placing stones in the middle of the road and waiting nearby. If a vehicle narrowly avoids the obstacle, the stones are quickly moved to target the next vehicle.
Dashcam footage from victim vehicles has captured glimpses of the gang’s movements, highlighting the premeditated nature of these crimes. Concerns are mounting about the lack of adequate security measures on this crucial stretch of highway. Allegations point to insufficient highway patrolling, absence of CCTV surveillance, and inadequate emergency medical facilities as contributing factors that have enabled these brazen crimes.
With public fear growing, demands for immediate action to improve highway security have intensified. Authorities are being urged to deploy patrol units, install surveillance cameras, and establish rapid-response medical teams to prevent further tragedies.
