In a nail-biting conclusion to the third Test, New Zealand made history by defeating India 3-0, marking the first time a team has swept India in a home series of three matches. The win cemented New Zealand’s unprecedented triumph in the subcontinent, a feat never before achieved by the Kiwis.

India, aiming for a consolation victory, looked hopeful as long as wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant remained at the crease. However, his controversial dismissal disrupted India’s momentum, leading to a swift collapse that sealed New Zealand’s historic win.
This marks only the fourth time India has suffered a whitewash in a Test series of three or more matches, joining defeats to England, Australia, and the West Indies. The last instance of a clean sweep against India in a three-match series was in 1934 against England, in pre-Independence British India.

Despite India’s strong first-innings performance, posting 263 runs in response to New Zealand’s 235, the second innings became challenging. With Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin claiming eight wickets between them, the Blackcaps were restricted to 174, but India’s chase fell apart under pressure. Key batters Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli struggled, leaving Pant as the sole anchor.
Pant’s valiant 64 off 57 balls was cut short by his contentious dismissal, and India’s lower order, despite efforts from Ashwin and Washington Sundar, could not withstand New Zealand’s relentless bowling, with Ajaz Patel and Glenn Phillips leading the attack to victory.
