The Bengaluru Rural police have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a 20-year-old woman, Sahana, amid allegations that she was a victim of caste-based violence. She drowned in Huskur Lake near Ramohalli on February 12, and initial reports suggested it was an accident. However, her boyfriend, Nitin, has claimed that her family was against their relationship due to caste differences.

Sahana, who worked at a private company in Kudlu Gate, was reportedly in a relationship with Nitin for over a year. The couple allegedly faced opposition from her parents as they belonged to different castes—Sahana from the Kuruba community and Nitin from the Naidu caste.

Her father, Ramamurthy, arrived at the Hebbagodi police station on the day of her death, stating that he and his daughter had accidentally fallen into the lake after he lost control of his bike due to fatigue. However, Nitin alleged that their relationship was the reason behind her death.

A day before the incident, Ramamurthy had summoned Nitin to a friend's house, where he reportedly refused to allow them to marry. With suspicions of an ‘honour killing’ emerging, the police are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing to uncover the truth behind the tragic incident.
