How is Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita different from the Indian Penal Code?

The first case under the New Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita was filed in Delhi. Pankaj Kumar hailing from Bihar was booked under Section 285 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita for obstruction on the foot over bridge at The New Delhi Railway Station. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed  in the Kamala Market Police Station. He is reported to have been selling tobacco and water in a cart and not heeded to the police when he was asked to remove it. 

July 1st marks the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita coming into force across India. This has replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which was the basis for the Indian Police Force to levy charges for crimes and offences until now. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita will have 358 sections. The IPC had 511 sections. 19 of these sections have been repealed. The fine, imprisonment and mandatory minimum sentence has been increased for several crimes under the new system.

The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been replaced with the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita. Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita has 531 sections. CrPC had 484 sections. 14 of these sections have repealed. 177 provisions have been changed. 9 sections and 39 sub-sections have been added. 44 new provisions have been added. The provision for audio-video has been added in 35 new places.
