Such casual attitude is being questioned by high and mighty
Uncleared garbage is a source of diseases
Bengaluru, once celebrated as the “Garden City” of India, is now grappling with a severe garbage crisis that has marred its reputation. The issue came into sharp focus when images of garbage-strewn streets in JP Nagar’s 9th Cross went viral, prompting industrialist Kiran Mazumdar Shaw to express her outrage on social media.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Shaw, the Chairperson of Biocon, did not hold back her frustration. She questioned the city’s tolerance for such filth and the lack of action to address the mounting garbage problem. “How do people live amidst such filth? Isn’t anyone interested in cleaning up the mess that they all have collectively created?” Shaw wrote. She further urged the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take immediate action, emphasizing that if the civic body fails to address the issue, residents should protest to ensure the city is cleaned up.
How do people live amidst such filth? Isn’t anyone interested in cleaning up the mess that they all have collectively created? If BBMP fails shouldn’t the residents protest and get it cleaned up? I just don’t understand our tolerance level to garbage. @BBMPCOMM please urgently… https://t.co/y5iN1IWIQI

The industrialist’s comments were in response to a post highlighting the deplorable state of 9th Cross in JP Nagar, where garbage has accumulated to alarming levels. The original post tagged several BBMP officials, urging them to take note and act on the situation.
Shaw’s remarks have struck a chord with many Bengalureans, who have long been frustrated with the city’s waste management issues. As calls for accountability grow, all eyes are now on BBMP to see how they will respond to this pressing problem.
