Revenue is needed to continue Shakti scheme
Price rise after elections won't be well received
Prices have remained constant for 3-4 years
Price rise is an issue that affects Indians across regions. This was also evident in many of the surveys conducted ahead of the elections. In light of these circumstances, the prospect of the rise of bus ticket prices would be a cause of worry for the average citizen. Reports suggest that a proposal has been made by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to the state government in this regard. Earlier a demand to increase the prices by 20% was made. A similar demand is said to have been made yet again.
The ticket prices have remained constant over the last 3 to 4 years. However the cost of manufacturing and hence procuring buses have increased. This is due to the increase of the rate of the spare parts. The KSRTC has supposedly presented to the government the difficulty in continuing operations without an increase in ticket prices.

How the government responds to this proposal remains to be seen. Increasing the prices just after the Lok Sabha Election result will be received negatively by a section of people. However, to continue the shakti scheme that provides free bus travel for women, revenue has to be generated.
