The Mysuru royalty is preparing to commence the annual celebration of Dasara in the city. In view of this, the Mysuru Palace has been closed for public view in the lead up to the festival. This would be the 416th edition of the festival. Hamsalekha, who was chosen as the representative to inaugurate the event, reached the Chamundi hills in the early hours of the day. 

At 5:30 AM, the preparations for the pooja commenced. At 6 AM, the Simhasana (throne) was unveiled as it is considered an auspicious time for the same. At 7:45 AM, the ritual of Kankana Dharana (tying of sacred threads) took place in the presence of sacred fire. It was performed on Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar, the nominal heir of the throne. This took place in the Vani Vilas palace. At 9:45AM, the elephant, horse and cow adorned with royal clothing were brought to the palace for the traditional tour of the palace. The Kalasha (pitcher) pooja (worship) and the Simhasana Pooja took place at 10:15 AM. The private court meeting is set to take place shortly at 11:15AM. In the afternoon, the photo of Chamundeshwari would be shifted to the Kannadi Thotti.
