  • Humans of Bombay accuses Brandon of not knowing the details of the case

Humans of Bombay, a popular photoblog founded by Karishma Mehta had filed a lawsuit against People of India, another Instagram account over copyright infringement and unfair practices as the latter had allegedly maintained the same format in their portal and even used photos and captions that had appeared in the former’s page.

Brandon Stanton, the founder of Humans of New York, which served as an inspiration for Karishma Mehta to initiate Humans of Bombay, came out strongly against the lawsuit.

“I've stayed quiet on the appropriation of my work because I think Humans Of Bombay shares important stories, even if they've monetized far past anything I'd feel comfortable doing on Humans Of New York. But you can't be suing people for what I've forgiven you for,” Brandon posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Humans of Bombay responded to Brandon through their X handle.

“It is shocking that a cryptic assault on our efforts to protect our intellectual property is made in this manner, especially without understanding the background of the case. Perhaps, before jumping the gun on this matter, you ought to have equipped yourself with the information about the case and also about what Humans Of Bombay is trying to achieve. Humans Of Bombay is all for the power of storytelling. But it should be done honestly and ethically,” the post stated.
