It was done in good faith: Kushila

Silence on this topic is seen as cowardice: Kushila

It’s mostly choosing peace over endless discourse: Kushila

Actor Kusha Kapila appeared on Comicstaan 3 winner Aashish Solanki’s ‘Pretty Good Roast Show’ which was featured on YouTube. Stand up comedians such as Samay Raina and Shreya Priyam Roy made personal jokes on Kusha, many of which included remarks on her recent divorce with YouTuber Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia. Although Kusha seemed unfazed by the jokes at the time of the shoot, she took to Instagram to respond to the incident. “Friends, a recent roast I was a part of has led a lot of my female and queer followers to question why did I sit through something that could have been completely avoided and WITH GOOD REASON. Here’s my two cents, it was done in good faith and for a friend. Nobody has been paid (neither comics nor guests) for it. So the argument that people are “being paid big fat cheques to hear their insults” is baseless (sic),” Kusha said.

Kusha stated that there were learnings for the showmakers after the episode and that reflected on boundaries being maintained in subsequent episodes. Certain jokes are reported to have been censored before the episode was posted on YouTube. “Over the course of the last six months during negotiations, I have been told that I deserve these jokes and that as a divorced woman I should have seen this coming. Maybe I should have and maybe silence on this topic is seen as cowardice but it’s mostly choosing peace over endless discourse that will likely villainise women (sic),” Kusha added.
