  • KL Rahul's average has improved since his shift to the middle order

India chased down the target of 200 with 52 balls to spare after an initial hiccup in their chase that reduced them to 2 for the loss of 3 wickets at the end of 2 overs. KL Rahul’s unbeaten 97 played an instrumental role in the victory. He finished the match with a six but did not seem pleased.

The reason for this was that he was 91 when he hit Pat Cummins through the off-side. He did not use much force, but the pace and timing ensured that the ball cleared the boundary rope hence denying him the opportunity to score a hundred. Furthermore, India’s net run rate presently is 0.883. Had KL Rahul scored a four and subsequently a six to get to his hundred, India’s net run rate would have been 0.960. “I hit it too well. I wanted to get a hundred by going four and six. Hopefully, some other time I can get it,” KL Rahul said, in the post match presentation.

His stellar performance earned him the man of the match trophy. Ever since KL Rahul occupied the number 5 position, as India needed a wicket keeper to replace Rishabh Pant, his average has been greater than 90.
