ICC has set deadline of May 1st for squad announcement

India will lift World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy: Jay Shah

Bumrah’s skill as a bowler makes him a vital member: Joy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set a deadline of May 1st for the announcement of squads for the T20 World Cup which will be held in the United States of America and West Indies in June 2024. Although the squad has not been announced, the announcement that Rohit Sharma will be leading the squad has been made. “We may have lost the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, but we won hearts there by winning 10 matches in a row. I am confident that India will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at Barbados,” Jay Shah said at the Nirajan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Former Team Director of the Kolkata Knight Riders Joy Bhattacharjya is however dissatisfied at this decision. “The decision to appoint Rohit Sharma as India’s captain for the T20 World Cup may have hampered the team. At this point, Sharma is not the ideal choice to lead the team in the T20I format. I have the utmost respect for Rohit Sharma and I think he is an amazing cricketer. However, he is currently out of batting form. Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill are in better form right now and are strong contenders for the opening positions. However, since Sharma is the captain, he will open, meaning one of those in-form players will have to bat lower down the order. I would choose Jasprit Bumrah over Rohit Sharma as captain because Bumrah’s skill as a bowler makes him a vital member of the team,” he said in an interaction with Cricbuzz.
