The collaboration, formalized by the IAF’s Headquarter Maintenance Command, aims to address key challenges in the upkeep of radar systems, aircraft, and IT and communication platforms. The agreement outlines a strategic roadmap for implementing reliability-centered maintenance through focused research and development efforts.

The partnership will leverage cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Digital Twin-based systems to improve lifecycle management, predictive maintenance, and asset planning. This synergy is expected to optimize the operational efficiency of IAF’s equipment.

The Ministry of Defence anticipates significant benefits from this collaboration, including shared access to testing facilities and enhanced academic engagement between IISc and the IAF. The MoA also aims to support postgraduate programs and joint research initiatives.

Aligned with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the agreement seeks to boost self-reliance in defence technology. It is expected to encourage the participation of startups, MSMEs, and other industrial stakeholders in defence indigenisation efforts.

This partnership marks a significant step toward modernizing India’s defence infrastructure and fostering innovation in the sector.
