COVID-19 vaccination in fact reduced the risk of sudden deaths: ICMR
A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) studied the hypothesis that the recent spate in heart attacks among those in the age bracket of 18 and 45 is linked to them having received a vaccination for the COVID-19 infection.
The study, titled “Factors associated with sudden deaths among adults aged 18-45 years in India — a multicentric matched case-control study”, is in the peer review stage and has not been published as of now. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had earlier warned people who had been infected with the Covid-19 infection to refrain from over exerting themselves for a period of 2 years citing this study.
729 cases were considered for the study with 4 times the controls (2916) on the basis of age, gender and locality. Medical history, lifestyle habits and physical activity of the subjects were examined. “COVID-19 vaccination did not increase the risk of sudden deaths among young adults in India. In fact, COVID-19 vaccination reduced the risk of sudden deaths among adults. Factors that did increase the chances of sudden deaths included being in the hospital for COVID-19 in the past and certain behaviours like binge drinking and intense physical activity shortly before death. In summary, this research provides important insights into the factors contributing to sudden deaths among young adults in India,” the study said.
