The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) has outlined a comprehensive sustainability strategy, aiming to achieve Net Zero Scope 2 emissions by 2030 and Scope 1 emissions by 2035.
The announcement was made during its World Environment Day event, where the institute also released its inaugural third-party audited Sustainability Report and launched a new academic course focused on sustainable business practices.

Spanning a lush, tree-filled residential campus in south Bengaluru, IIMB is home to over 1,200 students, faculty, and staff. The institute’s emission goals are tailored to the needs of this dense community while preserving its 20,000-strong collection of native and fruit-bearing trees.
The Sustainability Report, covering data from FY 2019-20 to FY 2024-25, highlights several key initiatives. These include the adoption of energy-efficient infrastructure, renewable power sources, rainwater harvesting, and wastewater reclamation systems. Despite a 20% increase in campus population over five years, IIMB has reported a 10% reduction in absolute emissions and a 25% decline in per capita emissions.
Adding to its sustainability agenda, IIMB introduced a new core course, Responsible Business and Sustainability, for its second-year postgraduate students.
Furthering its green transition, the institute also rolled out a fleet of electric vehicles, including golf carts, a bus, and an ambulance—part of a donation from the PGP 1998 batch—underscoring its shift toward sustainable mobility.
