    IIT Madras receives its largest single donation of Rs 228 crore

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) announced today that it has received its largest single donation of Rs 228 crore from Dr. Krishna Chivukula, an esteemed alumnus and recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award (2015). This contribution is one of the largest ever made to an educational institution in India.

In recognition of Dr. Chivukula’s generosity, IIT Madras named an academic block the ‘Krishna Chivukula Block’ during a special event on campus. Dr. Chivukula, who graduated with an M. Tech in Aerospace Engineering in 1970, introduced the advanced Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology to India in 1997, a technology still emerging in the US at the time. His company, INDO US MIM Tec, is now a global leader in MIM technology, with a projected turnover nearing Rs 1,000 crore.

The donation will support various initiatives at IIT Madras, including scholarships for international students, a Research Excellence Grant Program, an undergraduate fellowship for freshmen, a Sports Scholar Program, and the development of the Shaastra Magazine. Funds will also be allocated for the maintenance of the Krishna Chivukula Block.

Dr. Chivukula also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and has a distinguished career, including founding Shiva Technologies Inc. and Indo MIM in Bengaluru, after serving as Group President and CEO at the Hoffman Group of Companies in New York.

This historic donation marks a significant milestone for IIT Madras, reflecting Dr. Chivukula’s commitment to education and technological advancement.
